I remember how cool it was seeing the SR-71 scene at the end, its mostly BS poor green screen work but there is some great engine start footage and night take off from tail number 17964 (on display at the SAC museum in Ahsland NE) plus a couple of flyby shots. For some reason its always bugged me (even watching it as a kid) that a fully fueled and ready to fly jet was just hanging out and all it took to start it was to hop in and go. Now know what it took to get an SR-71 airborne it seems even more ridiculous. anyway, I can’t sleep.

Or that the X-Men had one that would fit all if them inside with room to spare......

oh that one just pissed me right off. Way to undermine the hard work and dedication of some of the worlds best and brightest engineers for a couple of lame shots.

I mean, it was cool, but don’t undermine Kelly Johnson and the Skunkworks engineers, not even for a comic book movie!

That movie is so old, it wasn’t even green screen; that was blue screen back then.

They used to play that movie on KCOP Los Angeles (I think) all the time. I must have watched it at least 10 times as a grade schooler.

Uhm, we used to leave our jets ready to fly even at home station. If it was supposed to fly the next day, we’d BPO/PR (Basic Post Flight/Pre-Flight) the jet, service it and just close the canopy.

Alert birds were even better. Pilot would come out and “hot-cock” the jet; basically we’d perform all of the launch procedures except the actual taxi. The pilot would shut down the motors and leave all his switches set. We’d pin the ejection seat, close the canopy, and voila! Hot-cocked and ready to rock. Less than 5 minutes from crew show, we’d have 2 A-10s in the air, and it was usually much less than 5 minutes.
